" TRAVEL fair season starts today.
Four major travel agents will be enticing Singaporeans with value-for-money tour packages, in the hope that the recession will not put too much of a crimp on holiday budgets.
ASA Holidays and CTC Holidays are first off the mark, hosting their fairs today; Chan Brothers Travel will hold its fair tomorrow, and SA Tours, next week.
But these are all merely teasers ahead of the grand daddy of all travel fairs, the National Association of Travel Agents Singapore (Natas) event, which starts on Feb27.
Fairs are usually held twice a year - at this time of the year for bookings ahead of the March and mid-year school holidays, and in August to tap the September and December travel markets.
The travel agents say they want to get a jump on the Natas fair with their own events so they can get the word out about the deals still available.
CTC Holidays spokesman Alicia Seah said: 'The economy may be sluggish now, but with good-
value tour packages, customers can still be enticed to take to the skies.'
Overall, travel agents say, airfares and hotel room rates have come down by 10 to 30per cent.
The biggest drops in prices - by at least $200 to $300 - are for long-haul flights to Europe and the United States. An 11-day trip to Los Angeles and Las Vegas with Chan Brothers cost $2,899 last year. This year, it is $1,899.
Prices for long-haul trips may fall even further, said SATours spokesman Ruth Lim.
But despite this, travel agents are expecting demand for long-haul travel to shrink by 20 to 30per cent as travellers tighten their purse strings.
The Big Four are therefore going with discount carrots, and also putting some firepower into offering variety for regional and short-haul trips."

i'm not sure if they alrdy updated the offers onto their website yet or not, but i can see. the prices are kinda reasonable. I WANNA GO FOR A HOLIDAY! =(
hahahs.well, my ex-Class advisor, Mr Norman Liew, told us before he's a regular superman who flys-flies to Taipei with his wife. And he told us that ard March is the Taiwan's earthquake season, so... the price will drop till ard $500 only. hahahahs. which is the price that is stated on the "CTC holidays" website. great catch~
well~ i could only day-dream for good things to come.
